ABOUT
Dr Dalene van Jaarsveld is a Palliative Care Physician from Bloemfontein in the Free State, where each patient is treated with empathy, compassion and dignity. Palliative care is an approach that improves the quality of life of patients and their families facing the problems associated with a life-threatening illness through the prevention and relief of suffering by means of early identification and impeccable assessment and treatment of pain and other problems, physical, psychosocial and spiritual. – World Health Organisation’s definition of Palliative Care.
Her compassion for people suffering from severe illness made medical studies a natural choice. She is passionate about improving patients’ and their families’ quality of life during advanced disease.
Dr van Jaarsveld established her private practice in 2016 and combined public and private practice. She has supported patients and their families diagnosed with life-threatening diseases since 2016. This support is done holistically with a multi-disciplinary team.
Dr van Jaarsveld, despite having a full-time job, regularly visits Hospice Bloemfontein patients during weekends or after hours. She also attends Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) meetings, discussing the best care for the patients, and is a member of the Board of Directors.
